One of my goals with this site is to set the stage so that more people can get the kind of “revelations” that come when you start putting the puzzle of evolutionary medicine and ancestral health together. Perhaps you are interested in expanding your knowledge about evolution, nutrition, and health, but lack the eagerness or time to spend a lot of time reading scientific papers, articles, and books on the subjects. Then videos are a great choice. As we all know, you often learn a lot more from a good video on a topic than you do by spending an equal amount of time reading. Over the years I’ve bookmarked some of my favorite documentaries, presentations, and lectures on health, fitness, and medicine, some of which I thought I’d share in this post. I’ve primarily included free online videos that bring some entertainment value besides the informational aspect.
In this well-known documentary you get an inside look at the modern food industry.
Agriculture’s Impact on Human Evolution
Dr. Clark Spencer Larsen talks about agriculture’s impact on human evolution.
Archaic Human Diets
What did archaic humans eat? Find out in this presentation by Mary C. Stiner.
Diets and Microbes in Primates
Steven Leigh explores the nature of the primate microbiome with the goal of understanding the impacts of microbiomes on human evolution. His results point to important contributions of microbial ecosystems to the evolution of human diet.
Current Hunter-Gatherer Diets
Alyssa Crittenden reports on the diet composition and foraging profiles of the Hadza hunter-gatherers of Tanzania. The significance of meat, tubers, and honey is addresses and the role that these food items play in evolutionary models is explored.
Why Paleo Is Taking The World By Storm
Chris Kresser talks about the premise underlying the Paleo movement and why looking to our past can make us understand how to live in the present.
The Human genome
Greatest Discoveries: Genetics
A documentary about genetics.
Epigenetics: Modern Day Lifestyle and Your DNA
Join Dr. Ron Hunninghake and Dr. Anne Zauderer as they discuss how environmental factors can alter the way our genes are expressed.
The Ghost in Your Genes
A documentary about epigenetics.
The Human Microbiome
This is a must-see documentary that explores the relationship between diet, gut bacteria, and health.
Solution to the Identity Crisis of the Ancestral Gut
In this video from last year’s Ancestral Health Symposium, Grace Liu talks about the changes that have occurred to the human microbiome over the last several millenia and suggests possible solutions to the identity crisis of the ancestral gut.
Dr. Leo Galland talks about the discovery of microbes and the role of microbes in healing, and how we can learn from that inner ecosystem to better understand our relationship with our outer ecosystem.
What is a patient? The Microbiome
Find out how the microorganisms that live in and on our bodies mediate both nutrition and our reactions to allergens and pathogens.
Journey Of Man; A Genetic Odyssey!
In this excellent documentary you get to follow Dr. Spencer Wells as he travels in the footsteps of our ancestors.
What Are Humans Adapted For?
In this great presentation from the Ancestral Health Symposium 2012, evolutionary biologist Dan Lieberman asks the question: What are humans adapted for?
Incredible Human Journey
In this five-episode science documentary Dr. Alice Roberts brings you along on a trip through human evolution.
