Work With Eirik

sitting-pcI’m regularly contacted by people who want me to help them achieve their health & fitness goals. Some suffer from a disease or health problem they feel have taken over their life, others want to lose weight, gain muscle, or achieve better athletic performance, and yet others are simply looking for a few simple strategies they can use to improve their general health. They ask me questions about nutrition, organic fitness, epigenetics, the human microbiome, and so forth, and some also want to know if I would be willing to work with them on a more permanent basis and design a health and fitness plan they can follow.

Typically, I respond to these people by saying that I rarely do online coaching, but that I’m more than happy to answer a few quick questions (I would have liked to give everyone a thorough reply, but that would just take too much time and energy on my part). Every now and then, though, I tell the person I’m in contact with that I can work with him/her on a more permanent basis, if he/she is truly motivated to achieving his/her goals and agrees to follow my instructions. Typically, the people I give this reply are those who are desperate for assistance and really wants my help with a health condition or problem they know I’m knowledgeable about.

Who I want to work with

There are several reasons why I don’t want to work with a lot of clients at the same time. First of all, I have a lot of other stuff to do. I have a limited amount of time and energy to devote to coaching and nutritional counseling. Second, previous experience has shown me that I don’t enjoy the work as much if I work with a lot of clients at the same time. Coaching really drains my energy if I do too much of it. Third, I want to be sure I’m able to give all of the people I work with my full attention. I don’t want to end up as one of those health & fitness experts who take on a lot of new clients all the time and give them all roughly the same plan to follow. I acknowledge that each person has unique needs, and needs individualized follow-up.

Fourth, I’m pretty selective about the type of people I take on. I don’t want to work with just anyone. I only work with people who are motivated and willing to put in an effort to attain their goals. I’d much rather work with 10 clients who are highly motivated than 100 who are not. When I first started doing this stuff many years ago, I ignorantly believed that the people I would come to work with would be a fairly homogeneous group. I obviously knew they would differ with regards to their health status, fitness levels, and so forth; however, I thought they would all be very motivated and ready to put in an effort. After all, they were spending a lot of money on me, so it would make sense that they were highly committed to the process.

Boy was I wrong. Whereas some of the people I took on as clients turned out to be highly motivated and more than willing to put in the work I required of them, others basically seemed to expect that I should do the work for them: drag them through their workouts, cook their food, and keep them away from their smartphone before bed. I highly enjoyed working with the former group. Not so much with the latter… I quickly learned that it pays off to be selective when choosing which clients to take on.

That said, I’m generally not very selective when it comes to the health/fitness condition of the people I choose to work with. Over the years I’ve helped people of all different ages and fitness levels attain their health & fitness goals. It doesn’t matter whether you’re today fit and lean, sick and overweight, or somewhere in between. I can probably help you either way. Whereas some of the clients I’ve taken on over the years were already in good shape when they approached me and were just looking for that little extra that could help them achieve peak health and performance, others were in very poor health and were desperately looking for someone who could help them out of the dark hole they found themselves in.

What I can offer you

The fundamental question you may now have is: What can I help you with? The answer is a lot, probably. It obviously depends on what you need help with. If you have trouble with your car, need a new insurance, or are looking for someone to mow your lawn, I’m not your guy. I’m also not the guy for you if you’re a die-hard vegan who’s unwilling to change your ways or a person who is so sick that regular medical assistance is required. However, if you’re looking for help with any of the things listed below, I may very well be what you’re looking for.

  • Darwinian medicine
  • Evolutionary/Paleolithic nutrition
  • Weight loss
  • Muscle growth
  • Microbiome restoration
  • Strength training (in particular barbell training)
  • Corrective exercise (in particular correction of Lower Crossed Syndrome (LCS) and Upper Crossed Syndrome (UCS))
  • Sleep and exercise optimization

Keep in mind: I don’t believe in quick fixes (Although there are a select few promising medical treatments out there that are effective in the treatment of many diseases and sometimes bring about rapid health improvements). I’m not going to promise you effortless results over night. I demand that you work hard and follow my instructions. In return I will give you my full attention and do whatever I can to help you attain your goals.

There are some obvious benefits to “real-life coaching” over online coaching, particularly in the context of physical exercise; however, the opposite is also true. The benefits of doing everything over the web is that communication back and forth can happen via text, which means that both parties don’t necessarily have to be present at the same time; the client and coach have easy access to each other; there are no requirements with regards to the geographical location of the two parties; there are no travel expenses; and you don’t need a place or premise to meet.

If you’re mainly seeking help with nutrition, microbiome restoration, exercise programming, and/or other things that can easily be discussed over the web, online coaching can work very well. Things get a little trickier if your mainly interested in help with corrective exercise and exercise technique; however, we may be able to work something out.

Work with me

If you want me as your coach/nutritionist, then send me an e-mail using the contact form below. Briefly explain why you want to work with me, what you need help with, and how much coaching you feel you require. I’ll look over your e-mail and get back to you as soon as I can. If I think we’re a good fit and I feel I can help you, I will send you an overview of the prices for different coaching options. If you then proceed to hire me as your coach and nutritionist, I will do an initial screening of your health and physical fitness condition before we start out.
